The best antivirus for Windows 10 Creators Update
As in previous analysis, the laboratory performed a series of tests with the leading security solutions available, checking the protection offered in two phases with almost 15,000 pieces of malware. The first test in real conditions, the security solution providers had to detect 0-Day malware from the Web and file attachments. In the second phase, the test was performed within the AV-TEST framework, where they had to detect already known malware.
As with all their analysis, AV-TEST assesses three factors (capacity for detection, system load and usefulness) in groups of six points, after months of continuous testing.
Of those tested, Kaspersky Lab, Avira, Symantec and Trend Micro solutions achieved the maximum score establishing 18 points. The tests offered, in general, very good results, confirming the high level of protection provided by these security suites.
What about Windows Defender?
When testing antivirus for Windows 10 Creators Update it’s in our interest to include Windows Defender because it’s in this version of the system where the Windows Defender Security Center began to operate , the new version of the native security solution not only provides anti-virus protection and anti-malware in real time as did their predecessors (Windows Defender or Microsoft Security Essentials for Windows 7) , but it’s also an integrated Security Center for other functions, such as the review of the updates installed by Windows Update or drivers, information about the connections of network, the active Windows Firewall configuration or access to the troubleshooting tool.
The results are good with respect to the previous versions Windows Defender. Although low in usability, it scores highly in the most important section, protection, with 5.5 points. It still ranks below commercial solutions, but it may be sufficient for a good portion of users. It’s worth remembering that Kaspersky has filed an antitrust lawsuit against Microsoft for Windows Defender under harsh accusations of monopoly. Without judging the demand, it’s proof of the improvements from Windows Defender.
